AS4EDI

Description

AS4EDI (“European EDI Providers integrating the AS4 eSENS Profile”) is an eDelivery CEF Telecom project co-financed by the European Commission. The consortium is coordinated by Universitat de València in collaboration with LMT Group, it counts with the participation of EDI Providers with a significant expertise: Billit (Belgium), OpusCapita (Finland), Viaduct (Sweden), Calvi (The Netherlands), Generix (France) and NetEDI (UK).

The main objective of the Action is to promote the use of the eDelivery DSI (Digital Service Infrastructure) amongst both private and public entities by integrating the AS4 protocol into six certified PEPPOL Access Points and their respective Service Metadata Publishers (SMP). This Action covers the transition from AS2 to AS4 profile in each Access Point of the Consortium members, as well as the upgrade and deployment of their respective SMP. As a result, a large number of European entities that are already using eDelivery services provided by the members of the AS4EDI consortium will have access to the cross-border exchange of electronic documents, according to the technical specification of the EU Core Service Platform, based on eDelivery AS4 Profile.

Project Coordination

The AS4EDI project is coordinated by Universitat de València (UVEG) with the collaboration of LMT Group. The main objective of this activity is to manage and coordinate the different members of the consortium to achieve a successful and efficient implementation. UVEG and  LMT Group will work together to manage the whole action in general and the administrative, technical and economic issues in particular. The project coordinators will be responsible for guaranteeing the achievement of the milestones, to provide documentation, to give support to the participants and to report any information to INEA.

AS4 and SMP Implementation

Under this Action, the EDI providers (supported by LMT) will identify the technical and legal requirements to be considered when implementing the AS4 Access Point and the respective SMP, according to the e-SENS and PEPPOL profile. Each partner will complete the design of their new eDelivery solution and will define a scheduled implementation plan.

After the completion of the preparatory tasks, each EDI provider will set up their AS4 Access Point and the respective SMP. Every consortium member must develop their own AS4 Access Point and the Service Metadata Publisher (SMP) using open source components. The AS4 protocol has to be fully integrated into the solution and the SMP properly connected to the Access Point.

Validation Tests

In order to demonstrate the appropriate design and implementation, each participant must successfully complete three important tests:

  • CEF eDelivery Conformance Tests are carried out to verify that an implementation of the AS4 Access Point and SMP is conformant with the relevant CEF eDelivery specifications.
  • The CEF eDelivery Connectivity Testing services allow to ensure that a new Access Point is successfully implemented and configured. In order to complete the test, the newly installed AS4 Access Point  conformant with the CEF eDelivery specifications must successfully communicate with the sample AS4 Access Point hosted by the European Commission.
  • Interoperability Tests are carried out to verify that all implementations of the consortium members are properly deployed and operational. During the tests, each partner needs to demonstrate that their specific implementation and configuration of the AS4 Access Point can successfully communicate (exchange messages in both directions) with the AS4 Access Points of the consortium members.

Project Dissemination

In order to promote the use of the eDelivery Service Infrastructure, the consortium members will perform several activities to disseminate the Action at national and European level, both from the general perspective of the consortium and the particular perspective of each participating entity. This task comprises the usage of both passive and active communication channels.

The project coordinator will design a Dissemination Plan that will include global aspects to be disseminated by the consortium as a whole as well as individuals to be disseminated by each participating entity. In this way, this official website has been created to disseminate key information about the project and its progress and, on the other hand, the participants individually will make the dissemination of their progress through their web portals and social networks (such as Twitter and LinkedIn).

Project Dissemination

In order to promote the use of the eDelivery Service Infrastructure, the different members of the consortium will execute a plan to disseminate the results of the project at a European level, both from the general perspective of the consortium and the particular perspective of each participating entity. They will communicate the status of their implementations through their dissemination channels.

The coordinator, UVEG, has defined a strategic communication plan aimed at a specific public made up of entities related to the PEPPOL network and potentially interested in collaborating with the members of the consortium. On the other hand, this website has been created in order to provide key information on the progress of the project and thus give visibility to their achievements, as well as this key information has also been disseminated through social networks such as Twitter and LinkedIn.
