The European project “Connecting public services to the Spanish eIDAS node” has come to its end

The project “Connecting public services to the Spanish eIDAS node” has successfully finished. This project is coordinated by RED.ES Entidad Pública Empresarial and has reunited three public official entities (the Ministry of Treasury and Public Function, the Ministry of Defence, and Fundación InnDEA Valencia); two private entities (LMT Group S.L. and AULOCE S.A.) and eight local organisms of the public administration, including city councils from different regions (Government of Navarra, Government of Canarias, Government of Castellon, Valencia city council, Ibiza city council, Estepona city council, Gandia city council, and the conference of rectors of the Spanish universities (CRUE)).

The project’s objective was to accomplish the European eIDAS Regulation, which sets up the standards for secure and reliable electronic identification and electronic transactions in the European Single Market. The aforementioned regulation was publicated on July 23th, 2014, and it applied since July 1st, 2016. The Ministry of the Treasury and Public Function through the General Secretary of Digital Administration (SGAD), has deployed the first version of the Spanish eIDAS node, integrating the use of  the DNI-e (electronic national identity document).

The project, as a whole, will be replicable or reproducible in other public and private institutions that, in the same way as the city councils, have among their processes, the reception of invoices and other documents as a product of a commercial interaction between public and private institutions coming from the European Union. This will able the entwine of the Single Market and the expedition of certified documentation for public dominion that shall comply with the new European Regulations, which in coming months will be mandatory.

As future measures, it is intended to demonstrate an integral functioning through the European territory. So far, the development of the tool takes place at European level. Nevertheless, all the countries belonging to the European Union are working to a lesser or greater extent in their own adaptations in a parallel way, in a project which will take a time to be totally implemented, but that will be concluded with a European platform integrally connected in which it does not matter from where an invoice or other documents are launched. Any institution will be able to process it, securely and transparently from any place, guaranteeing its traceability. Explained in another way, the eIDAS node network allows the recognition of electronic identities in national transactions and their corresponding structures in other countries.

The project has been funded by the European Commission  through the 2015 CEF eID call, with an associated budget of 1.311.859€ and a funding of the 75%. The call’s objective is the cross-border electronic integration based on the security and efficiency of information management.
