Available EU Funding for CEF eIdentification

March 23th, 2018

The Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Telecom eIdentification, provides funding of up to €7.5 million for this call proposal (CEF-TC-2018-1). The objective of this grant funding relies on supporting the adoption of CEF eID in the European continent. It covers up to  75% of implementation costs, which enables organizations to adopt this eID system. The deadline for submission is May 15th 2018.

This call for proposals is the last chance for applicants who wish to request grant funding for the eID before the legal deadline established by the Regulation (EU) No 910/2014 on electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions in the internal market (know as the eIDAS Regulation). The results of the funded actions under this call, should lead to an increased adoption of eIDAS eID, in addition to related information on attributes, mandates and authorities.

Furthermore, the eIDAS Regulation states that all Member States need to set-up what is call an eIDAS node: an interoperability infrastructure allowing mutual recognition of national eID systems. In the same way, they encourage Member States to connect as many online services to this network as possible, so that public administrations, businesses as well as citizens will benefit from it. By 29 September 2018, they must recognise cross-border authentication.

The European Commission, together with the Member States support, provides a set of services such as software, documentation, training and support, that are grouped in the CEF eID Building Block Digital Service Infrastructure. Its function is to help public administrations and private Service Providers to broaden the use of their e-services to citizens from other European countries.

Interested in submitting a grant proposal? First of all, you will need to read the Call Text in order to know which are the main objectives of the grant funding and how to apply, before submission. The Innovation & Networks Executive Agency (INEA), provides all the information grants and is responsible for organising all the CEF calls for proposals.
