Tools used to translate traffic data from xml schemas into the new semantic model created under the LOD-ROADTRAN18 Action.

Currently there are many public administrations that publish traffic data by using different xml schemas such as the standard DATEX. In fact, the Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT – Directorate-General for Traffic) in Spain currently uses DATEX versions lower than 3 and plans to change to the last version shortly.

Under the LOD-ROADTRAN18 CEF Action, the IRTIC (Research  Institute on Robotics and Information and Communications Technologies of the Universitat de València) and other participants are implementing and testing some translation tools to convert the traffic data published by DGT into a new Semantic Model. These tools are part of the results of this Action for the Activity 6 (Linked Open Traffic Data concept development), which is composed of three different tasks:

  • Task 6.1. Common metadata model for traffic information.
  • Task 6.2. Definition and implementation of Linked Open traffic Data model.
  • Task 6.3. Semantic validation and conversion tools.

These new tools and Semantic Model are based on previous models, but incorporate more information and are prepared for the Traffic Data contexts in Spain and Czech Republic. Furthermore, they can be adaptable to other additional contexts and they are implemented by this project under the coordination of IRTIC with the technical support of LMT Group and ESAM.

The Action #LODRoadTran18 (Supporting the cross-border use of Road Traffic Data with Linked Open Data based on DATEX II) continues its successful development. This action will improve the extraction of meaning from Traffic Data, allowing other types of services which can only be achieved with the use of LOD.

LOD-RoadTran18 is co-financed by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) (2018-EU-IA-0088) and aims to support the re-use of dynamic Road Traffic Data in and across the Czech Republic and Spain.
